Small Area Demographic Estimates based on 2020 census data
We are happy to announce the first release of Small Area Demographic Estimates (SADE) based on 2020 census data. The estimates cover the years 2020 through 2023 and are normalized to census 2020 geographies for: the state, counties, census tracts, and school districts. Estimates for congressional districts based on the 2020 census redistricting commission’s boundaries and data for the recently revised 2024 state legislative districts are also provided.
These estimates are considered preliminary because modified race data from the 2020 census is not yet available. OFM uses bridging factors from decennial census products to reclassify respondents in the ‘other race’ category to standard OMB race categories. We intend to work the 2020 modified race data into our products after it becomes available, but updates may be on our normal production schedule.
The new estimates can be found on: Estimates of April 1 population by age, sex, race and Hispanic origin | Office of Financial Management (wa.gov).
Did you know the Federal Race and Ethnicity Data reporting standards have changed? To help with this transition we have created a ‘Race and Ethnicity Information’ page. It is our hope that this page will be a valuable resource as the transition to the standard takes place over the next five years. See: Race and ethnicity information page | Office of Financial Management (wa.gov) for more information.
Estimates of total population and housing for the newly revised state legislative districts have been added to the Small area estimates program page based on our small area data series.
