WIN Public Speaking Group 

Wednesday, February 22, 2023

Hosts: Christina Pourarien and Gwen Willis, Professional Development

If you would like to practice public speaking, please sign up for Washington Immigrant Network’s “WIN-Public Speaking Group.” Our goal is to help develop the professional skill of effectively speaking in front of groups of people in meetings or other events. This is a supportive and inclusive environment where we will comfortably engage in speaking and evaluation activities. Please have a two-minute speech prepared that you would like to receive feedback on. Feedback will be provided by those who are in attendance through an objective evaluation. The schedule will depend on the number of people we have signed up for each date.

WIN's Mentoring Program Now Accepting New Mentees

Are you new to state service?

Are you seeking guidance on how to manage your career goals?

Do you need someone to talk to and share ideas with?

WIN Mentoring ProgramIf yes, then WIN's Mentoring Program maybe a good resource for you. We have mentors from several state agencies from various ethnic backgrounds with varied expertise and experiences, including multilingual.  You can view WIN's list of eligible mentors to see if there is someone whose career experience and background would be a good match. After reviewing the mentor's profiles, you can submit your mentoring request here.

The Membership Outreach Subcommittee oversees and manages WIN BRG outreach efforts through various agencies and communities. The team is responsible for coordinating outreach events and oversees all immigrant and allies’ membership outreach and retention.

On November 30th, approximately 2,000 community members and state employees came together in-person and virtually to help lay a strong foundation for achieving equity across Washington state government, now and for generations to come.

L&I is excited to have Nadia Damchii from DSHS talk about Tsagaan Sar, also known as Mongolian Lunar New Year.  

Tsagaan Sar translates to “White Moon,” and this traditional Mongolian festival is a time to gather with extended family members and welcome the coming spring season.

L&I is hosting this short event, but everyone is welcome to participate.

February 22nd Career Fair

The Washington State Department of Labor & Industries has current openings for entry-level up to experienced inspector positions.

To help job seekers take their first step in starting a career at L&I, the department is hosting at career fair from 2-7 p.m. Feb. 22. The in-person event will be held at L&I headquarters, 7273 Linderson Way SW, Tumwater.

Like many other agency’s L&I provide great pay, benefits, and paid time off. They have a work-life balance that puts your life first. Working for L&I is also an opportunity to help people and your community.

You can register for the fair to receive more information and reminders. It’s not required, you can just show up on Feb. 22.

Veterans Employee Resource Group (VERG) Hiring Event

Your Washington State VERG is excited to announce that we are preparing to launch the Inaugural Washington State Agency Hiring Event on Joint Base Lewis McChord on March 28, from 9:00 am to 7:30 pm. This event is open to current Washington State National Guard, transitioning Service Members, and their families. Your VERG is partnering with various state agencies, Hiring Our Heroes, Washington State National Guard, and other organizations to provide transitioning Service Members and their families an opportunity to speak with Recruiters, Hiring Managers, and current Veteran state employees and gain insight to the various roles and benefits within state government.

Statewide business resource groups (BRGs) bring together groups of employees and their allies who have a common interest or characteristic. All BRGs have a charter, mission, goals and bylaws and contribute to an overall statewide business strategy.
